diffusion

Diffusion is a series of works in which I depict the subjects as if viewed through a pane of fluted glass. The earliest such pictures were created in 2004.

low_resolutions

In the Low_resolutions I make use of the aesthetics that I have adopted from the screen. The subject is resolved in pixels. But not, as there, in a multitude of the smallest possible pixels in order to create a sharp image. I paint as few huge pixels as possible in order to bring my subject to the edge of unrecognizability. I have been working on the series since 2008.

unidentified

In 1998, in the series unidentified, I began to depict individuals – mostly in monochrome shades of blue – exactly from behind. This resulted in portraits that, unlike usual, do not address the viewer directly, but nevertheless have characteristic features.

yesterday’s news

As a former reporter, I have never lost my fascination for printed newspapers. In 1994,In Yesterday’s News I began laminating newspaper front pages on handmade cardboard and painting over them with a brush that was “too big”, in contrast to the small structures of the text and image content. While the detailed information is lost, the character of the medium is preserved.
